  • Rise in Home Baking

    October 23, 2015 | News
  • In the last few years supermarkets have reported growth in home baking product sales, including the Edmonds Cookery Book which recently printed its centennial edition. The popular New Zealand Deluxe Edition cook book has sold over 3 million copies since it was first published.

There are many reasons for the growing popularity in home baking in the last few years, among them the huge public interest in TV cooking programmes like Masterchef and The Great British Bake Off. The GFC or global financial crisis has also contributed to this, with many households looking for ways to save on food costs.

There is also a shortage of trained chefs and bakers in the hospitality industry in New Zealand and overseas, which has encouraged more young people to enter food training education.

We support this interest in baking as more and more people enjoy a wider variety of foods.

The Baking Industry Association of New Zealand lists a number of organisations that provide training for potential bakers. Check out their website at: http://www.bianz.co.nz/become-a-baker/
